Marketplace insurance, also known as the Health Insurance Marketplace, is a platform created under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that allows individuals and families to purchase private health insurance coverage. The Marketplace was established to help people who do not have access to employer-sponsored health insurance or government-sponsored programs such as Medicare or Medicaid, to find and purchase health insurance that meets their needs and budget.
The Marketplace offers a range of health insurance plans from private insurance companies, and the prices and benefits of these plans can vary. The plans are typically divided into metal levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum) that represent the amount of coverage the plan provides and the amount the individual will have to pay out of pocket.
Subsidies in the form of premium tax credits may be available to eligible individuals to help lower the cost of their monthly premium. Additionally, some individuals may be eligible for cost-sharing reductions, which can help lower their out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles and copayments.
It is important to note that the Health Insurance Marketplace is primarily open for enrollment during a certain period each year, typically from November to December. However, there are special election periods when you may be able to get coverage.
